221B and 9 3/4

Ok so I'm super behind on posting what I've been doing so bear with me here.

Two weekends ago, January 25, I had a wonderfully nerdy day with Shire, Morgan, and Sarah.

Our adventure began, as most do in London, on the tube, which we took to one of holiest places in nerddom, Baker Street. When we exited the train we were created by the sight of a painting of a Sherlock head, made out of smaller Sherlock heads.

Naturally we immediately became sterotypical tourist and stopped in the middle of the platform (a action that's very frowned upon) to take pictures. We then proceeded out of the station where we encountered the Sherlock Holmes statue and a sign graciously pointing us in the direction of 221B.

We made our way down the street (fangirling the entire way) to the Sherlock Holmes Museum located at 221B. I have to say the Museum wasn't what I expected. Don't get me wrong I'm glad I went while I was here, but I wouldn't ever go back. I expected it to be full of memorabilia from Sir Arthur Conan Doyal and information about him and the writing of the books and from different tv and movie adaptations. Instead the first few floors were set up exactly the way they are described in the original books, and the top two floors have some, very creepy, wax figures molded after the stories.

The gift shop was our final stop and was full of wonderful, wonderful things, but all just as overpriced as you would expect so I had to content myself with looking. From there we went back to the tube and headed to King's Cross Station to seek out the Hogwarts Express.

Morgan and Shira has already been to Platform 9 3/4 so they knew where to go, thank goodness because King's Cross is HUGE. We made our way to the Platform Sarah and I got in line behind about two dozen other Harry Potter fans. The line moved suprisingly fast and very soon we got to act out one of our childhood dreams.

When you get to the front of the line you are greeted by a person dressed as a train conductor, whom we call the scarf person. This person has one scarf for each of the houses and you tell them which one you want to wear in your picture. (From personal experience I can tell you that when you request Slytherin  they give you a very dirty look. Sarah and I both braved the mean look to wear the Slytherin scarf.) Once you get the scarf the exciting part happens.

There is half a cart protruding from the wall, you hold onto the handles with one leg up in the air to make it look like you're running, then to complete this illusion the scarf person holds the end of the scarf and throws it in the air on the count of three. The result is the picture below which I shall treasure forever.
